Istanbul. Passion Joy Fury
Isbn 9788874627837 Publisher Maxxi Idea code 16112 € 34.40
Like the eponymous exhibition at the MAXXI in Rome, this substantial volume tackles the dynamics, changes, and cultural demands of contemporary Turkey, a bridge between West and East. Dealing with Istanbul’s social, architectural, and political landscape, and comprising 100 works from 45 artists, architects, and film-makers, each section addresses different subtopics related to change within the city’s urban environment. Beginning with the protests at Gezi Park, still fresh in recent memory, the exhibition examines five major themes: urban transformations, political conflicts and resistance, innovative models of production, geopolitical urgencies, and hope.

Wim Delvoye ( Tehran Museum )
Isbn 9789082364712 Publisher Recta Idea code 16135 € 48.40
Published on the occasion of an exhibition of work by Belgian neo-conceptual artist Wim Delvoye at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, curated by Leila Varasteh and Vida Zaim, this beautifully bound and illustrated volume demonstrates not only the diversity of the artist’s oeuvre, but also reflects his ability to blur the line between tradition and modernity. Incorporating a wide range of artistic practices, from the Northern Gothic style to the geometrical patterns of Islamic art, and from Iranian traditional painting and Dutch Delftware to embossed ornaments, crucifixes, gas canisters, vehicular parts, and laboratory equipment, Delvoye’s artworks hold inherent contradictions.

Dirk Zoete - The Be- Part Exercises
Isbn 9789491843570 Publisher Roma Publications Idea code 16120 € 25.00
This book documents the act of drawing in the midst of becoming. The exercises it presents were created for an exhibition by Dirk Zoete in 2016. He used the space to translate his drawings into three-dimensional theatrical sculptures, embodied by actors photographed in filmic series. The images were then digitally edited and drawn upon. The characters seem to be frozen in a re-enactment of the drawings upon which they were based. Through repetition and change, they reflect a geometrical rhythm in different patterns and constellations. Zoete’s drawings essentially explore the creation of space through line, but without ever aspiring to become an “actual” space.

Crawling Doubles - Colonial Collecting And Affect
Isbn 9782917855683 Publisher Editions B42 Idea code 16109 € 25.80
In his contribution for the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (2014), Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc takes as a departure point the ethnographic and entomologic collections that his grandfather gathered in Gabon and French Guyana in 1931 while working as a health officer. Such practice inevitably raises questions about the ways in which modern scientific knowledge was closely tied to and facilitated by colonialism. This book, based on a series of discursive events organised in the framework of Abonnenc’s project, fosters and continues critical conversations between artists, researchers, activists, and theorists. With contributions by Lotte Arndt, Catalina Lozano, and others.

Monuments Should Not Be Trusted
Isbn 9781907421082 Publisher Art Data Idea code 16117 € 31.85
'Monuments Should Not Be Trusted' brings together over 30 leading artists and groups from the “golden years” of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia – the period between the early 1960s and the mid 1980s. Over 100 artworks and artefacts illuminate the key contradictions of this single party state – built after WWII on socialist principles, yet immersed in “utopian consumerism.” This is the first time in the UK that the art of this period, which has attracted increasing attention, has been shown in the context of the social, economic and political conditions that gave rise to it. It draws on new and innovative research on this period, and features many of its most celebrated artists.

Wdw Xxv - In Light Of 25 Years
Isbn 9789491435454 Publisher Witte De With Idea code 16096 € 15.00
This volume features works commissioned by the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art as part of ‘In Light of 25 Years’ (2015–2016). Curated by Defne Ayas and Samuel Saelemakers, the project involved nine international artists: Özlem Altin, Wineke Gartz, Camille Henrot, Germaine Kruip, Mahony, Raimundas Malašauskas, Zin Taylor, Freek Wambaq, and Xu Zhen. The participants were invited, based on a number of qualities present in their respective practices, to create a new work departing from a reference of their choosing, selected from the institution’s archive. In doing so, they show the ongoing need to translate and interpret the world’s happenings through art.

Edith Dekyndt Ombre Indigene
Isbn 9782840668480 Publisher Les Presses Du Reel Idea code 16122 € 37.65
Born 1960 in Ypres, Belgium, Edith Dekyndt lives and works in Tournai, Belgium. Her practice embraces video, drawing and sculpture. It is grounded in a meticulous observation of natural forces and physical phenomena, as they take place on a daily basis, but not always visually appear to us. Her experiments do not relate to any scientific analyses but are presented as figures of contemplation and reflection. This book is published on the occasion of the eponymous double exhibition at Le Consortium, Dijon, between October 2015 and January 2016, and at Wiels, Brussels, from February 5 to April 24, 2016. These two exhibitions do not include any identical work, and their organisation follows different directions, thus denying the “free exchange” rule of the travelling exhibition often at work in artistic events.

Sissi - Anato-My Lessons
Isbn 9788875705541 Publisher Corraini Edizioni Idea code 16107 € 40.30
Italian artist Sissi launches her artistic research from a recurrent and almost scientific analysis of the human body, borrowing elements from disciplines such as archaeology and anatomy, to reach an imaginative dimension capable of giving things new and unexpected forms and aspects. The method behind ‘Parallel Anatomy’, the art project that Sissi has been developing for years, is laid out in this artist’s book, which is read both in relation to her work and to that of the great anatomists who opened windows to the subcutaneous basement. It offers a way of speaking about emotions as intangible organs that, in order to take on a body, inhabit other organs and modify them.

Keith Sonnier: Portals
Isbn 9781942607175 Publisher Karma, New York Idea code € 44.55
Keith Sonnier, along with his contemporaries Eva Hesse, Barry Le Va, Bruce Nauman, Richard Serra, Joel Shapiro and Richard Tuttle, was a leader in Postminimalist art who radically reinvented sculpture in the late 1960s. The artist experimented with previously unused materials – latex and satin, found objects, transmitters and video – until he settled upon his signature work with neon. Sonnier sketches lines, arches and curves before rendering them in glass tubing enclosed neon, creating works of line and color that become architectural installations. 'Keith Sonnier: Portals' documents the artist’s latest series of 14 wall-mounted sculptures.
