Isbn 9789490119331 Publisher Fw: Books Idea code 15443 € 40.00
'Nationalfeiertag', is a book about one of the biggest, and most monitored squares in the world: Tiananmen Square in Beijing. 26 years ago the student protest took place in April and May and the massacre on June 4th. Officials and police try to control the images taken on the Square. Katja Stuke filmed a few hours of material on Tiananmen Square, and Chinese National Holiday on Oct. 1st as the following Golden Week. From this footage she extracted hundreds of portraits. The book combines these portraits with newspaper clippings which are collected and spread by the June 4th Museum in Hong Kong to keep the memory of the protests of 1989 alive.

Yuji Hamada - C M Y
Isbn 9789490119355 Publisher Fw: Books Idea code 15473 € 27.50
The romantic notion of nature is a constructed reality, projected by man. Yuji Hamada investigates these contstructions. In his first (and celebrated) book 'Photograph' Hamada seeks to give form to light. In the book 'C M Y' Hamada explores the images of landscapes which surrounds us in our daily live, and influence our perspective on the landscape as we (want to) see it. Hamada deconstructs the images through a photographic process, and later constructs new images through a printing process. The book is made in close collaboration with graphic designer Hans Gremmen. Together they found new ways to print colour images, in order to create a new constructed reality.

Andre Thijssen - Ams
Isbn 9789082391701 Publisher Fringe Phenomena Idea code 15477 € 29.10
In this photobook, Dutch photographer André Thijssen presents 110 full-page peripheral visions of the city of Amsterdam. Seen sideways, from the corner of the artist’s eye, the city is brimming with seemingly insignificant situations, accidental juxtapositions, and interventions that are either made by chance or purposefully by its inhabitants. Described as “pencil sharpeners for the eyes”, the images therefore become intriguing, mysterious, and compellingly obscure, with nothing more than the postal codes given as reference to the pictured locations. Part of the book’s content was published as a weekly column in the Dutch newspaper ‘Het Parool’ in 2014–2015.

From Dirt To Dust - Ten Years After Skateboarding The Urban Revolution Of Mongolia (2004-14)
Isbn 9782919159154 Publisher 19/80 Editions Idea code 15425 € 41.95
In 2004, a group of Western skateboarders travelled to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital and largest city, because they had heard of a giant skatepark there. Upon reaching it, they discovered the structure had been razed three weeks prior. A decade later, Mongolia has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, spurring chaotic growth and profound societal changes. The skateboarders decided to return to Ulaanbaatar, along with photographers, writers, and architects, and again used skateboarding to connect with people and take stock of these drastic changes on the ground, from a vernacular perspective. This book documents their awesome journey.

Roberta Bayley - I Survived First American Tour 1978
Isbn 2867254100386 Publisher Peel & Lift Idea code 15376 € 2.50
During a career that spanned the 1970s to 1990s, photographer Roberta Bayley was a central figure in documenting the punk rock movement. Working at the legendary live venue CBGB in New York City, she encountered many musicians and artists like the Ramones, Blondie, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, and the Sex Pistols. In 1978, she toured with the Sex Pistols and captured band members (Johnny Rotten, Sid Vicious, Steve Jones, Paul Cook) on and off the stage. The images place us in the midst of the chaotic ascendency of this infamous punk outfit, unpredictable its unrestrained energy and self-destructive bent. The Sex Pistols’ first American tour would also be their last.

Sebastien Van Malleghem - Prisons
Isbn 9791092265316 Publisher Andre Frere Editions Idea code 15446 € 4.00
Photographer Sébastien Van Malleghem spent eight months researching Belgium’s prison system in a self-financed investigative report that began in 2011. He eventually gained access to ten different institutions, bringing into focus the ruined lives and misery of confinement, whether for criminal actions or psychological reasons. Rather than questioning the need to put away and monitor these individuals, through his stark and confronting black-and-white images Van Malleghem intends to condemn the archaic and opaque system around those men and women who have been incarcerated behind walls that only erode their humanity, whether under the pretence of crime or insanity.

Jun Nakasuji - Overgrown Ruins
Isbn 9784757223820 Publisher Aspect Idea code 15365 € 24.60
If abandoned and left alone, human settlements are inevitably taken back into nature’s fold. Photographer and ruin explorer Nakasuji Jun confronts us with the eerily still and untouched buildings and interiors of a modern town now lost to the forest. Chairs and tables are covered in lush carpets of moss, trees spring from roofless houses and rusted vehicles, once lively industry lies quiet, and vines delicately drape facades and power lines with a mantle of green. The stories the town holds slowly slip away in nature’s embrace.

Emma Phillips - Salt
Isbn Publisher Emma Phillips Idea code 15298 € 31.70
Young Melbourne photographer Emma Phillips’ new body of landscape images is so striking in its minimalist visage that it almost borders on abstraction. Shot amid the dramatic manmade undulations of a salt mine, SALT hints at many of the tropes of the landscape and picturesque tradition, only for the subject itself – the huge, white mounds of glistening salt – to cause a slippage. It’s a familiar form, but an alien landscape. Phillips also traces fragments of industrial and domestic infrastructure within this strange environment. The arc of a conveyor belt juts obliquely from towering apex of salt; a caravan, itself blasted white, sits oxidising in the midst of a sun-beaten, white plane; an orange digger chugs across an otherwise colourless frame.

Hush : Noa Ben-Shalom
Isbn 9780992133733 Publisher Sternthal Idea code 15432 € 40.00
This photobook tells the story of a society living through a recurring loop of violent outbursts, in which, time and again, life is shattered into pieces and reconstructed. Photographer Noa Ben-Shalom chooses not to picture the more obvious scenes of direct violence, instead bringing into focus the subtle way the apparently never-ending conflict between Israel and Palestine has permeated all aspects of life in the two regions – almost without being noticed. Through poignant personal correspondence (in English, Arabic, and Hebrew) and images gathered between 2000–2014, Ben-Shalom enables quiet introspection within a landscape in which the absurd has become the norm.

Jurgen Lehl: On The Beach 2
Isbn 9784908062117 Publisher Hehe Idea code 15421 € 2.00
Jurgen Lehl established his fashion textiles company in Japan in 1972, and in 2006 he began to design ecologically responsible, hand-made products for Babaghuri. In recent years, while staying at his house on Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture, he was struck by the increasing amount of waste washing up on the beaches. Some of the trash is Japanese, and some has drifted ashore from other Asian countries. This second of two volumes comprises his in situ photographs of the myriad flip-flops that also end up scattered over the beaches. Lost to the ocean for an indeterminate time, they reappear as decayed and disintegrated, colourful yet poisonous objects.

Philippe Van Wolputte: Temporary Penetrable Exhibition Spaces
Isbn 9789490800352 Publisher Art Paper Editions Idea code 15454 € 25.00
A long-term project by Belgian artist Philippe van Wolputte that spans over a decade, ‘Temporary Penetrable Exhibition Space’ comprises a number of site-specific interventions in the public or semi-public space. The majority are temporary actions which are also clandestine or illegal, meaning that they generally go unnoticed by visitors or passers-by. In so doing, Van Wolputte raises questions about where the work begins or ends, what its boundaries are, whether or not the interventions actually took place, and if we are even able to tell the difference. Existing between the lines of fact and fiction, the sites documented in this volume cleverly address the notion of urban memory.
