Best Book Designs 2015 Netherlands And Flanders

Isbn 9789059653931
Publisher CPNB
Idea code 16494
€ 28.70

The annual catalogue of the Best Dutch Book Designs transformed this year to accommodate a selection of books from both the Netherlands and Flanders. With the two regions acting together as guest country at the 2016 Frankfurt Book Fair, it was a natural decision to mount a joint selection, the result of which is 33 Dutch and 17 Flemish Best Designed Books. As always, an eye for innovation and inventive image-text symbiosis was given priority, as was the “necessity” of a project, according to Dirk Leyman, author of the judges’ report. The publication presenting the chosen books was designed by Irma Boom, with data printed on fine, semi-transparent paper in grey tones.

Flaneur Issue 06: Boulevard Ring, Moscow

Isbn 9772196537004
Publisher Edition Messner
Idea code 16537
€ 15.00

Diverging from the principle of focussing on one street, Flaneur succumbs to Moscow’s underlying cosmological blueprint: the city is in this issue made up of orbits. The Boulevard Ring is the first orbit and on it five bubbles are chosen that encircle the Kremlin. These bubbles are not just places – they are constellations, principles, motifs for exploration. Featuring Arbatskaya Square, Pushkinskaya Square, as well as a personal journey of Ksenia Golubovich. Photographer Stas Galaktionov explores the underground vibes of one of the last remaining squats in the neighbourhood. Moscow Waters has a contribution by Grashina Gabelmann and artist Judith Sönnicken considers the mental architecture of disappearing and reappearing structures. The last chapter considers the future as much as the possible futures of the past, the crossroads that haven’t been taken, through a collection of poems, short stories and visuals.

The Responsible Object A History Of Design Ideology For The Future

Isbn 9789492095190
Publisher Valiz
Idea code 16552
€ 22.50

Imagine how future archaeologists will discover countless things we have thrown away: plastic and metal objects, discarded electronics, synthetic textiles, and other items that do not easily decompose; the leftovers of an age of rampant, imperishable objects. Today, in an economic system that revolves around producing and consuming such things, we now face how to deal with them in the challenges that lie ahead. The intrinsic design ideologies of sustainability and social responsibility are often not new. This book presents a history of socially committed design strategies within the Western tradition, from William Morris to Victor Papanek, and from VKhUTEMAS to FabLab.

Earth And The Moon 360 Book - Yusuke Oono

Isbn 9784861525513
Publisher Seigensha
Idea code 16478
€ 31.55

Earth, our home planet, came into existence as the third planet in the solar system 4.6 billion years ago. A catastrophic collision with another large celestial body sent scattered pieces of both into the void, which would eventually gather to form the Moon 100 million years later. The Moon’s gravitational pull gave rise to tides on Earth, and from this primordial ocean life emerged. Since mankind’s very beginnings, the Moon has been a symbol of our dreams and faith. Human ventured into space and witnessed our “blue planet” for the first time in 1961, and landed on the Moon itself in 1969. This three-dimensional panorama book celebrates our perpetual skyward gaze.

Utsuwa Katachi: Japanese Ceramics And Forms

Isbn 9784903348483
Publisher Adp
Idea code 16418
€ 27.15

The Japanese world utsuwa literally means “vessel” or “container”, and commonly refers to any kind of cup, plate, dish, or pot. Unlike mass-produced crockery, the spontaneous ceramic form is momentary and fleeting, with an unparalleled warmth and aesthetic pleasure. This art form emerges from the particular clay or raw material used, the thickness and flow of the glaze, and the condition of the kiln. An individual piece depends on the distinct balance between all of these factors, and each piece is one-of-a-kind; encounters with utsuwa are said to be once-in-a-lifetime experiences. This book features gorgeously photographed pieces by a selection of specialised ceramists.

Mika Miyamoto - The Netherlands Hindeloopen

Isbn 9784861525551
Publisher Seigensha
Idea code 16486
€ 31.40

Hindeloopen is the name of a small village in the northern area of the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands. This style of painting was born in the 17th century, and even now there are a small number of craftsmen with workshops in town where they continue to produce traditional painted furniture. In this style, flowers, birds, arabesque patterns, and other designs are painted over serene base colours of red, dark blue, and green, giving off a sense of calm and grace. The author, Mika Miyamoto, first encountered this style in Hindeloopen 30 years ago. Motivated by the retirement of popular artists, Miyamoto has compiled this volume in an effort to preserve a vanishing Hindeloopen.
