Experimental Jetset - Statement And Counter-Statement (Notes On Experimental Jetset / Volume 1)

Isbn 9789491843860
Publisher Roma Publications
Idea code 17060
€ 29.00

The first publication on the work of Dutch power trio Experimental Jetset features almost two decades of graphic design praxis. Rather than a monolithic monograph, it is a very loose, personal archive, with essays by Linda van Deursen, Mark Owens, and Ian Svenonius, plus two photographic chapters with a selection of work by the studio, covering both printed matter and the documentation of site-specific pieces and installations. To conclude is a glossary-like anthology of texts (fragments of interviews, lectures, correspondence, etc.) previously written by Experimental Jetset, selected, edited, and structured by Jon Sueda. Re-print combined with the booklet 'Automatically Arranged Alphabets'.

Muita Animacao: Posters From The Noel Fischer Collection

Isbn 9783906213194
Publisher Rollo Press
Idea code 17092
€ 32.00

Muita Animação showcases a selection of Portuguese party posters that are very prominent in the local landscape because of their bold design as well as their unique production method: Printed on plastic and mounted on streetposts and trees, they mostly survive the date they announce and therefore can even be seen on Google Streetview. Zurich Artist Noël Fischer started to collect these posters a few years back and has now — together with design studio Hammer — published them in this whimsical A3-sized book. This collection might as well be Jan Tschichold’s worst nightmare.

Famous Ordinary Things

Isbn 9788890383908
Publisher Dabook
Idea code 17050
€ 17.25

'Famous Ordinary Things' is a tribute to modest objects developed within Swiss design culture. "Famous" Swiss actors from the creative, artistic, or political field contributed to the book by taking a snapshot of a design item from environment. The resulting images underline the contemporary landscape of home and office interiors in Switzerland and remind us how these objects impact our everyday lives. They present a beautiful kaleidoscopic voyage through nostalgic and progressive visions, whereby the relationship between object and owner is filled with anecdotes and irony. With contributions by Mario Botta, Olaf Breuning, Alain de Botton, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and many others.

Publisher Lecturis
Idea code 17090

Other famous works are the Clay series, which had its tenth anniversary in 2016, and the Grandfather Clock in the Rijksmuseum. Themes like time, melancholy and transience are constants in his work. The designer also plays with his role, the designer as performer, and the marketing of design in general. He moves between various disciplines, which can be seen in many exhibitions. This book also presents collaborations with theatre makers, architects and visual artists. Ingmar Heytze wrote poems based on his collections and contributions were also made by photographers like Erwin Olaf and Anton Corbijn.

Big Book Series 01: Urashima Taro

Isbn 9784861525827
Publisher Seigensha
Idea code 16708
€ 20.65

An old Japanese folktale takes the form of a giant, beautifully illustrated fold-out poster. Its protagonist, Urashima Taro, is a young fisherman who rescues a turtle from children who are tormenting it. He is rewarded for this act of kindness with a visit to Ryūgū-jō, the palace of Ryūjin, the Dragon God Nadraka, deep beneath the sea. Although he only stays there for three days, upon his return to his village he finds himself 300 years in the future, alone and alienated. The story dates to the 8th century, during the Nara period, and bears a marked resemblance to folktales from other cultures, including the Chinese legend of Ranka and the American tale of Rip Van Winkle.

Big Book Series 02: The Giant Turnip

Isbn 9784861525834
Publisher Seigensha
Idea code 16709
€ 16.60

A classic children’s folktale takes the form of a giant, beautifully illustrated fold-out poster. Of Russian or Slavic origin, ‘The Giant Turnip’ is a progressive story in which an old man plants a turnip, which then grows so large that he is unable to pull it up himself. He asks his wife for help, and the two of them still cannot wrest it from the ground. Successively more people and animals are recruited to help, until they finally pull the turnip up together. The humour or moral of the story is that only with the help of the weakest and smallest creature (in this case, the mouse) can the giant turnip be harvested.
