Arcatecture - Swiss Cat Ladders
Isbn 9783856169138 Publisher Christoph Merian Idea code 19529 € 41.95
They come in all shapes and sizes, and somehow the phenomenon is especially prevalent in Switzerland: homemade cat ladders. Taking the city of Berne as an example, photographer Brigitte Schuster shows the variety of ways humans facilitate the comings and goings of their feline friends in the context of the surrounding architecture. From a simple wooden plank to complex, scaffold-like constructions rising up to four storeys in a zigzag fashion, they express sociological, architectural, and aesthetic peculiarities, which are further developed in accompanying texts. As such, the book serves as both a guideline and source of inspiration in creating your own cat ladders.

A+T 52 Paradises - Urban Park Strategies
Isbn 9788409098804 Publisher A+t Architecture Publishers Idea code 19436 € 26.50
The fifth volume of the ‘Strategy’ series is dedicated to urban parks. Through a selection of projects, the magazine identifies and analyses design strategies with which to create accessible, natural paradises for the urban dweller. To study the projects from the perspective of these strategies is to venture into the relationships that emerge between them, and – as a consequence – between the projects themselves. Initiated in 2010, the ‘Strategy’ series defines scalar scopes, evidences disciplinary origins, and composes a grid that overlaps the project to offer a new vision of it.

Scape 16: Dossier Crossing The Line
Isbn 9789492474421 Publisher Blauwdruk Idea code 19507 € 24.50
In addressing urgent matters such as sustainability, climate, and social integration, the design and planning world has no simple solutions. This uncertainty can be seen not as a problem, but as a source of inspiration, which is the theme of this issue in its examination of a variety of initiatives and projects from around the globe in two dossiers: “Crossing the Line” and “Beauty”. Further, Arna Mačkić makes the case for architects to become fully engaged in post-conflict reconstruction of cities, a photo essay on refugee camps by Sebastian Wells, Thomas Sieverts writes on reinterpreting the city as an oasis for biodiversity in the agricultural desert of the future, and more.

Aires Mateus Light
Isbn 9788494767869 Publisher C2c Editorial Idea code 19447 € 40.85
Architectural photographer Juan Rodríguez brings his keen eye and perceptive sense of form, mass, and light to this extensive and beautifully shot series of photographs featuring the architecture of Manuel Aires Mateus. In documenting work by this famed Portuguese architect, which has a strongly sculptural nature, Rodríguez has opted for the stark contrasts and dramatic lighting effects of black-and-white film. The buildings with their geometric shapes are usually white, possessing characteristic clean lines and bold volumes that stand out dramatically in their respective contexts, whether a natural landscape or urban setting.

Sydney XXXL
Isbn 9788494234286 Publisher Altrim Publishers Idea code 19446 € 29.75
In less than 250 years Sydney has evolved from fledgling colonial outpost to thriving global city. But behind the perfect postcard images, it is a city that struggles with its own success. This is the point of departure for renowned Sydney architect Ed Lippmann, a first-hand witness to the problems that have emerged from the city’s lack of planning who offers perspectives on how such issues might be avoided in the future. ‘Sydney XXXL’ digs deeply into the city’s history, charting the financial and political interests that shaped its development and identifying the key decisions that need to be made to accommodate future population growth in a more liveable, sustainable city.

C3 403: Village Within A City - Come Together
Isbn 20925190 Publisher C3 Publishing Idea code 19407 € 29.00
This issue introduces the most recent works by three Korean architects: Seung H-Sang, Byoungsoo Cho, and Heesoo Kwak. Four critics travelled across Korea to visit three buildings and interview the architects in person. Also featured are reviews of five communal buildings that are intended to be shared and enjoyed by their communities. Each is set in a tranquil location and has its own personality. Finally, the issue investigates the hybrid nature of large community complex buildings, vertical towns that provide one-stop service systems. Clearly, with the acceleration of urbanisation, the position of architects in small rural towns versus mega-cities tends to differ greatly.

AV-Auroville, Architectural Travel Guide
Isbn 9788494234255 Publisher Altrim Publishers Idea code 19513 € 29.05
The first Auroville community was based on a particular spirit, following a design appropriate to Sri Aurobindo’s integral yoga. Pondicherry is a seaside town where the French influence can still be seen in its architecture, street names, and local language. Yet Tamil architectural styles can also be found there. This guidebook includes four Auroville itineraries structured around the experimental township’s master plan, which is divided into four zones. A fifth itinerary is located in Auromodele, which is outside the main part of the city. Likewise, three Pondicherry itineraries correspond with the city’s three main geographical zones: French Quarter, Tamil Quarter, and suburban areas.

Naegele's Guide To Only Good Architecture In Iowa
Isbn 9781683150152 Publisher Culicidae Architectural Press Idea code 19326 € 24.15
Despite its deceptive title, the fact that this book is a guide about Iowa is accurate. Daniel Naegele qualifies “good” being not absolute but contingent and personal, and therefore a very questionable qualifier. By “architecture”, however, Naegele means “good building”, regardless of whether or not the built object was designed by an architect, is a habitable structure, or is even a building at all. Most entries in this guide are concerned either with vernacular works that are habitable tools (barns, corncribs, silos) or with built works that are not buildings at all (billboards, bridges, wind turbines, water towers). Mildly contentious by nature, Naegele’s guide is nevertheless utterly practical.
