Saintscapes. Views Of Lombardy
Isbn 9788897753575 Publisher Viaindustriae Idea code 20054 € 35.75
‘Saintscapes’ is the result of a collaboration between artist Claudio Beorchia (1979) and curator Matteo Balduzzi, and centres on the idea of observing transformations of landscapes and communities by documenting the many aedicules, niches, and small temples, places where statues and effigies of saints are situated, spread throughout the Italian landscape. He photographs from the saint’s perspective, with the camera at their eye level, marking the position and later adding a description, anecdote, or personal thought. The thousands of images he collected represent the visible part of a journey that lasted almost a year and generated discussions, meetings, and reflections.

Genda 3: Endless Scenarios
Isbn 9788887071825 Publisher A+m Bookstore Idea code 20007 € 20.45
‘Genda’ continues its intersection of Western and Eastern culture by providing a platform for accidental, compressed, and distant yet dangerously similar material. The images here live in connection with the spaces they inhabit. The scene, which may be found or constructed, suggests an action leaving an immediately perceptible “before” and “after” in the photography, with its background, environment, and conditions. This issue features photographers Todd Hido, Federico Clavarino, Morgan Ashcom, Zhao Qian, Zhu Mo, Yishu Wang, Claudio Gobbi, Zhang Xiao, Ronghui Chen, Matteo Mastronardi, Sarah Pickering, Amiko Lee, Yifan Hu, and Pietro Mattioli.

Deceitful Habits In A Human's Soul - Michael Meier & Christoph Franz
Isbn 9783907112229 Publisher Vexer Verlag Idea code 19634 € 27.55
Michael Meier and Christoph Franz created the site-specific commission ‘Deceitful Habits in a Human’s Soul’, a fountain situated in the courtyard outside the University of Zurich’s new building for its Department of Banking and Finance. The work recreates elements from the Trevi Fountain in Rome, cast using metal from coins thrown into the iconic fountain. The act of tossing a coin into the pool at this popular site is based on a superstition fuelled by Hollywood. This publication documents the project in texts and photographs, marking the celebratory opening of a financial studies facility with paradoxical commentary on how we as a society value its humblest monetary units.

Christof Zwiener Nach 1990
Isbn 9783907112205 Publisher Vexer Verlag Idea code 19635 € 37.95
Between 2011 and 2015, Christof Zwiener sought out and photographed 315 flagpoles in East Berlin, relics of the former GDR that have been subject to the phenomenon of post-reunification transformations of the public space. Prior to 1990, flags were a part of everyday life in the GDR, and yet Zwiener discovered there were no documents or records on the number or locations of state flagpoles in Berlin. Inevitably, his photos show not only the flagpoles in their found state but also the places and squares in which they were located, some with exemplary GDR architecture as the urban backdrop. Neglected, the flagpoles were rendered functionless and seemingly invisible to society.

Natural Forms - Marta Pohlmann-Kryszkiewicz
Isbn 9783907112144 Publisher Vexer Verlag Idea code 19633 € 37.95
In ‘Natural Forms’ artist Marta Pohlmann-Kryszkiewicz presents objects and fragments of waste. Processes of change as well as narrative shifts form the starting point of this publication, which consists primarily of thematic images representing a photographic appropriation of the material. This manifests as a choreography of structures and layers in basic colours (a sequence of blue, red, yellow, and green), paired with tangled architectures of twisted metal, plastic, and vegetation. A text by poet and philosopher Italo Testa creates a dialogue with the images. The artist conceived the book in collaboration with designers Ondine Pannet (Bureau David Voss) and Thomas Schoofs.

Puglia Artists' Guides 2: Villaggio Cavatrulli
Isbn 9788870385595 Publisher Centro Di Idea code 20066 € 35.75
The second volume in the series is dedicated to Puglia, wherein the region is explored through research by artist Fabrizio Bellomo. His work has led him to scour Puglia’s wastelands of solid and empty spaces, structures left behind by quarrying rock for materials to build elsewhere. Bellomo sees these ancient residual structures as open-air architectures, which in turn offer a possibility to create new stone environments to populate. His extensive mapping of quarry sites throughout Puglia allows for the very process of extraction to become an architectural action planned in advance. Included are a selection of images from his travels, plus a booklet with project writings, works, and reflections.

Yuji Hamada - Primal Mountain
Isbn 9784907562199 Publisher Torch Press Idea code 20024 € 46.50
At first glance, the photographs in ‘Primal Mountain’ appear to depict alpine sceneries. But upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that these are not mountains in the literal sense, but topographies composed of artificial materials. Amazed by the beauty and perceived fiction of a postcard from a friend, Yuji Hamada was inspired to question the principle of mountains in general. The landscapes fabricated in his images therefore play tricks with our perception, raising questions as to what causes us to recognise mountains as such. The reverse side of each page shows an enlarged shot of the image on its front, further blurring the boundary between reality and fantasy.

Filippo Romano - Watertanks Mathare Nairobi
Isbn 9788887071849 Publisher A+m Bookstore Idea code 20023 € 30.65
In 2011 Filippo Romano began photographing Nairobi’s Mathare slums, home to roughly half a million people. His fascination with the adaptation shown by its communities ranges from the nightlife and colourfully decorated motorbikes to water tanks as DIY infrastructure and trash pickers in Dandora, Nairobi's main dumping site. Beginning where his first series on water tanks left off, this second instalment covers five additional years of photographs of these large plastic reservoirs, which are frequently mounted atop concrete structures or metal frameworks for distribution. Romano’s project was part of the exhibition ‘Made in Slums – Mathare Nairobi’ at the Triennale Museum in Milan in 2013.

Jon Setter - The Urban Text
Isbn 9780980701852 Publisher Emblem Idea code 20022 € 36.75
Sydney-based photographer Jon Setter makes pictures that attempt to reveal the unseen aspects of urban spaces and architecture. Often working with subjects discovered by chance on unprescribed walks, he documents cities from peculiar viewpoints. In ‘The Urban Text’ series he methodically develops colours, patterns, and textures of the urban vernacular into an abstracted expression of space, cropping and flattening the cityscape into boldly contrasting delineations and simple geometrical shapes, changing how we read our surroundings. Among the places he visited are Bali, Detroit, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Rome, Seattle, Venice, and New Zealand.

Vesper 1: Supervenice
Isbn 9788822904164 Publisher Quodlibet Idea code 19691 € 19.35
This first issue of ‘Vesper’ is dedicated to the realities and unreleased imaginaries of the famous lagoon city. Venice is read as a paradigm of contemporaneity, the place where the architecture, arts, and theories have superlative dimensions: very slow, extremely long-lasting, super short, or overexposed. The journal collects projects, essays, and other views from various directions and perspectives, whether a reflection on the city, its architecture, music and theatre, or on Venice as a literary body in itself.

3ody Configurations
Isbn 9788875708184 Publisher Corraini Edizioni Idea code 20218 € 26.55
The protagonists of this publication are Claude Cahun (1894–1954), Valie Export (1940), and Ottonella Mocellin (1966), who together represent a female declaration of bodies, spaces, and times that “reveal” new identities, political urgencies, and renewed expressive choices. Despite being three creative and challenging personalities who are markedly distant from each other in creative background and geography, this juxtaposition of their self-portrait photographs, many in the public realm, reveals three different ways of emphasising the close relationship between personal presence, the choice to use a specific technological device, and the progressive space-time tension.
