O.OO: No Magic In Riso (reprint)
Isbn 9789869758802 Publisher O.OO Risograph & Design Idea code 19361 € 44.00
It took 850 days, 74 tubes of soy ink, 15 colors, 660 masters, 690,000 sheets of paper, 3 fans, 2 riso printers, and 4 people to complete a book – a 360 page book that only talks about 1 thing. The thing that is always the most fascinating is “Process”. The processes and experiences that did not have the chance to appear in the pages of this book can only be quantified, converted, and recorded into words. The process creates micro-imperfections in printing, similar to spontaneity, or even comparable to how improvisation in jazz can lead to an unexpected but pleasant result. The result of two years of research by O.OO, a graphic design studio based in Taipei, the main focus of this publication is colour separation and experimentation with images. The studio does not claim the colour separation methods described here to be absolute or the “right” way, but offer resources in hopes that they can provide helpful advice in practice while on the path to professionalism in this field.

Wheels of Light - Designs for British Light Shows 1970-1990
Isbn 9781909829206 Publisher Four Corners Books Idea code 22605 € 20.40
Emerging from avant-garde art performances of the 1960s, light shows became the hip accompaniment to gigs and clubs in the 1970s. Swirling coloured oils and kaleidoscopic patterns were projected across bands and venues, while 360 degree painted 'panorama wheels' would slowly rotate in projectors, showing only a section of the image at any one time. Wheels of Light brings together the images made by the key projection companies that sprung up in the UK, including Optikinetics, Pluto and Orion, and tells their story. From beautiful abstracts to visions of outer space, the designs for these rotating projections are a snapshot of the creativity and inventiveness of an era.

Harvard Design Magazine 50: Today's Global
Isbn 9781934510858 Publisher Harvard University Idea code 22562 € 26.50
In a world impacted by extreme and rapid global expansion, the 50th issue of ‘Harvard Design’ asks what it means to be global today. While globalisation brought glamour and economic growth for some, it came at the cost of immobility, inequity, and displacement for others. Reflecting on how world histories and challenges have inspired new forms of cooperation, the 25 contributions provide a contemporary understanding of how design is advancing the definition of globalisation beyond the mere movement of capital. Guest edited by Sarah M. Whiting and Rahul Mehrotra, with contributions by Lesley Lokko, Shiqia Li, Sandi Hilal, and many more.

Lisa Konno - Nobu Baba Henk
Isbn 9789090365152 Publisher Lisa Konno Idea code 22672 € 32.30
The book NOBU BABA HENK combines the process and stories of the film trilogy by writer and director Sarah Blok and fashion designer Lisa Konno. In their films on migrant fathers they found common ground in their love for stories, told in a lighthearted tone, yet doing justice to their complex and socially involved subjects. NOBU, BABA and HENK let them into their homes and hearts and taught them about human resilience, showed them the beauty and challenges of navigating two worlds and raised the question what culture actually is. In this concluding book each film gets introduced with reference images, design sketches and text fragments of film scripts, before showing the finished films through subtitled filmstills. All carefully selected and designed by Marius Schwarz.

Process - Design Drawings from the Rijksmuseum 1500-1900
Isbn 9789462087354 Publisher Nai010 Publishers Idea code 22685 € 59.95
'Process' shows an extensive collection of design drawings, never presented before, of artefacts from the period 1500-1900 from the Rijksmuseum collection. The design drawings in this publication are presented from a design perspective. The focus is not so much on the provenance and attribution of the drawings (as was customary in the case of this type of drawing until now) but on the function of the drawing within the process of design and maker's practice throughout the centuries. This innovative categorisation was created after years of research by Professor Reinier Baarsen, senior curator at the Rijksmuseum, and provides a unique insight into the context in which the drawings were created.

Isbn 9783956796630 Publisher Sternberg Press Idea code 22598 € 25.00
Published in conjunction with the "metalworks – designing & making" exhibition in the Konschthal Esch, this book uses the production of some twenty international creators to discuss methods of transforming metal in contemporary design. Around forty objects have been classified into sixteen categories, illustrating how these creators have adopted and crafted metal. Accompanied by a historical text recounting the uses of metal in furniture since the eighteenth century, and the history of the metallurgical industry in Luxembourg, this publication brings together some sixty biographies, explanatory texts, and a technical lexicon on methods of transformation and the selected objects.

Hato Zines 31 - Fungal by Raphaël Bastide
Isbn Publisher Hato Press Idea code 22697 € 10.95
"Fungal is a homage to Wikipedia, one of the greatest website of the World Wide Web. This collaborative encyclopedia is now 21 years old, and I am still fascinated how it changed our relationship to knowledge. It also represents a comforting example of what humanity can do: collaborating voluntarily on the largest knowledge project in our history. (...) My work quickly focused on how to create organic ornaments, affecting the encyclopedia’s interface, its typography, the figures and the Wikipedia logo itself. I asked my friend Jérémy Landes to collaborate on the design of a libre font forked from DejaVu Sans, able to spread like mycelium thanks to the variable technology." — Raphaël Bastide
