Simple Architecture – The Villa Baizeau in Carthage By Le Corbusier and Jeanneret

Isbn 9782960253078
Publisher Accattone
Idea code 24065
€ 59.15

The social, economic, constructional, environmental and climatic issues that, at the start of the twenty-first century, have called into question the foundations of the architectural project make up the theoretical background to the book devoted to the villa that Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret built in Carthage for Lucien Baizeau, Blanche Thiéblin and their family. The book is organized around two complementary analytical perspectives. The first is devoted to the history of Villa Baizeau, providing a full understanding of its reasons and meanings, its genesis, its theoretical importance, the role of the client and the joy provided by the house to the family, with the aim also of gathering the knowledge necessary for its restoration as a fundamental architecture of the twentieth century. The second is open to some of the greatest protagonists of architecture today and is in line with the cultural strategy of Le Corbusier, who was always able to reconsider his works in the light of contemporary phenomena, even through graphic manipulations, inverted plans and reversed photographs, in order to discover their unexpected potential.

Taiwan Strait. Conscious City Incubator

Isbn 9789493329089
Publisher Jap Sam Books
Idea code 24200
€ 55.00

The Taiwan Strait is a liminal body, which means it is a threshold between two spaces, but the threshold itself is a space. This space, in this case the sea with its islands, coastal lines, mists, animals, and shipping lanes is a region which combines the best of both sides of the threshold, but as a body has its own dreams and desires and has access to other spirits and imaginary beings. What if this space acts as a visual and visionary device, and a future is seen through this lens, which is if not a complete utopia, at least a collection of fragments of this future?

The Bauhaus Revisited in Weimar and Thuringia

Isbn 9783944425108
Publisher M Books
Idea code 24125
€ 10.55

In the six years before it moved to Dessau in 1925, the first Bauhaus in Weimar left scattered but notable traces beyond the city limits throughout Thuringia. This unknown Bauhaus is located in hidden places like Erfurt, Gera, Greiz, and Probstzella. In rural regions, former Bauhaus members and their students dedicated themselves to projects that have in many cases been unfairly forgotten. This booklet traces and familiarises the early Bauhaus, highlighting its impact and aftermath by creating a network of things built and designed, and of events and people. It presents a vivid image of the Weimar Bauhaus period and its most important places of activity in the region.

Isbn 02141256
Publisher Avisa
Idea code 24129
€ 22.75

Ever since first meeting as students, Spanish architects Fernando Rodríguez and Pablo Oriol have shared an infrastructural approach to tackling projects – less in relation to mechanical logic and more in terms of an organisational capacity to take on complex contexts and programmes. For every commission they set down a different set of rules. The two are convinced that for particular problems there can only be specific solutions. An overview of their varied work features the Estación San José Complex in Toluca (Mexico), Unolab Headquarters in Getafe (Spain), a thermal power station in Palencia (Spain), and the new artistic production facilities for Milan’s Teatro alla Scala in Italy.

Maurice Nio - The Suspense of Architecture, The Necessity to Shine

Isbn 9789071346552
Publisher Duizend & Een
Idea code 24132
€ 30.00

In a way, this book can be regarded as a manuscript. A bundle of translated texts, essays, interviews, and images selected from among the numerous suggestions and various submissions from the author, which in the end failed to receive his authorisation. It is the culmination of the final project undertaken by Rotterdam-based architect Maurice Nio before losing a long-running battle with cancer in July 2023. Designed by Thomas Buxó, the book is a white version of what Nio calls his black bible. Instead of writing on that which is secret, obscure, black, and elusive, he now addresses that which is shining, clear, whiter than white, and obvious.

'The Green Dip' offers ways to reintroduce nature into our cities, by critically examining architectural strategies and green solutions. The research group The Why Factory (Delft University of Technology) has produced a series of visualizations of various greened cities (Hong Kong, São Paulo, Dubai and many more). These visualizations respond to the analysis and calculations made for each of the biomes in which the cities are located. The visualizations are accompanied by sets of objective data, from the amount of oxygen that can be produced, via the gallons of water than can be stored, to the number of birds that can be provided with a habitat.

Publisher Kenchiku Shiryo Kenkyusha
Idea code 24108

Junzo Sakakura (1901–1969) spent seven years working in Le Corbusier’s atelier in Paris in the 1930s. Upon his return to Japan, he established his own practice and became an important proponent of the modernist movement. Sakakura later won a limited entry competition for the design of the Museum of Modern Art in Kamakura. The building comprises a second-storey white box supported on thin steel supports. For his design, the architect particularly took into consideration aspects such as the site, function, composition, and air circulation and humidity control. This book combines original drawings with present-day photography to paint a portrait of this remarkable building.

trans 43: Silence

Isbn 9783856764623
Publisher Gta Verlag
Idea code 24131
€ 20.45

We try to put our thoughts into words to describe what we feel or believe. We communicate with our bodies and speak through our actions. But silence is a language, too. In silence, complex relationships unfold and allow unspoken realities to emerge. In every absence lies a presence, in every pause a possibility. This issue of ‘trans magazin’ invites you to perceive this concept beyond the absence of sound. A deep breath and closed eyes can evoke the feeling of infinite solitude. Allow yourself to be lost in a forest and hear your heartbeat, to protest without words, or to dive into the bursting vibrations of a rave. Only then will you be able to listen to the echo of silence around you.

The Architecture of Loneliness

Isbn 9789493246355
Publisher Valiz
Idea code 24209
€ 22.50

Whereas solitude is a chosen condition that refrains from social relations, loneliness suffers from the lack of these. Edited by Mieke Bal, this book presents three essays exploring a side of loneliness strongly connected to an encounter with the other. South African psychologist Wahbie Long looks at what kind of relationships to the outside world emerge from childhood experiences of playing and relating to others. French philosopher Marie-José Mondzain uses the metaphor of architecture and the elements that construct “home”. And French psychoanalyst Lysiane Lamantowicz discusses a form of loneliness that is pervasive today: the consequences of social networks.
