Redstone Diary 2025: Moments of Happiness

Isbn 9781739597610
Publisher Redstone Press
Idea code 24199
€ 16.50

Life, the philosophers say, should be spent in pursuit of happiness. We are bombarded with advice on what fulfilment looks like: on how to be, what not to do, improvement plans, mantras of wellbeing, being kind to oneself, and others. But such contentment, as Émilie du Châtelet points out, remains elusive. Nor is it a rational goal, however alluring. We can, at best, only see glimmers of such pleasures and recall them in retrospect. But if we can place these moments together, day by day, across weeks and months, we can achieve something like a good life.

Plant Magic Issue 2: Weeds

Isbn
Publisher Hooops Publications
Idea code 24511
€ 25.00

The second issue of Plant Magic brings together a range of artistic perspectives that explore the complex, resilient, and sometimes contradictory existence of spontaneous vegetation, which is referred to as “weeds”. Weeds embody ambivalence and resistance, thriving in the cracks of crumbling worlds and wastelands. They whisper secrets of life that refuses to give up, of beauty that insists on being seen, of healing that happens stubbornly, even in the poorest of soils. Spontaneous flora reminds us that survival goes beyond mere endurance and becomes an art of thriving against the odds. They dare us to look beyond the obvious, to queer the gaze, and unearth worth in what is so often overlooked.

The Crafts Of Fashion vol 2: Geographies

Isbn 9782494983199
Publisher Éditions B42
Idea code 24507
€ 32.50

From the export of goods to the movement of populations, from the establishment of workshops to their relocation, the mechanics of cartography offer new keys to understanding the materials and trades of fashion. Drawing on a multifaceted approach to geography, the texts collected in this book offer insights into the artisanal and industrial traditions, gestures, materials, and actors that define the cultures of fashion production. Looking back at the establishment of passementiers in the nineteenth century, the logic of proximity among Parisian featherworkers, the textile trade with India, and the craft of hairworking in the twenty-first century, this book brings together voices that help us to better situate what unites these multiple ways of seeing fashion and its savoir-faire. With contributions from leading figures in the world of fashion, both academic and studio-based, this series of books helps to break down the barriers between disciplines.

Launching ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics to coincide with an immersive expo organised by professional footballer Youssouf Fofana, this project explores the African diaspora in the city’s 18th arrondissement, in particular creatives connected to Senegal and West Africa, looking at how sport and shared culture can create community. Martijn in ’t Veld – Potato Bones

Isbn 9789083347745
Publisher Happy Potato Press
Idea code 24550
€ 16.00

'Potato Bones' is a illustrated collection of text works, poems, and prose that In 't Veld wrote between 2016 and 2024. During this period, he published a wide variety of books under the name Happy Potato Press. Those books, or better said, potatoes, took many forms and ranged from poetry to picture books and from art books to children’s books. The writings in this book never fit into any of those publications, yet they feel essential to them, like the bones inside our bodies—invisible, but without them, we would be mere mush, sliding through the streets.

Jochen Gerner - Caniscope

Isbn 9782494983137
Publisher Éditions B42
Idea code 24547
€ 17.20

A small chapter in the book Dogs, published in 2023, this collection of 56 forms was drawn by Jochen Gerner in KOH-I- NOOR two-tone coloured pencils (blue and red) on old bar notebooks, in a furtive gesture of note-taking and graphic experimentation. Leaving aside felt pens with pigmented Indian ink in favour of a clear, uncluttered line. Sublimated by the famous two-tone television pencils, Caniscope examines the canine question in a radically different style. Ghostly silhouettes adorned with two round eyes, creeping profiles held on a leash, hairy heads punctuated by a nose, these abstract modules resemble elliptical dogs whose analysis would have focused solely on the texture of their coat. The lines are densely juxtaposed, parallel or criss-crossed, wavy, trembling or straight, creating a catalogue of fluffy materials.

Mauka to Makai - Hawaiian Quilts and the Ecology of the Islands

Isbn 9781068625008
Publisher Common Threads Press
Idea code 24349
€ 22.00

Exploring the intimate relationship between Hawaiian quilts, post-colonialism, and ecological disaster, research curator Marenka Thompson-Odlum traverses Hawai'i through the Poakalani quilting group and fifteen extraordinary quilts, newly commissioned by Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford. The ahupua'a is an ancient land division system - extending from the highest regions of Hawai'i's uplands (mauka) to the ocean (makai) - representative of the Hawaiian people's sacred knowledge and reverence towards the environment. Once a thriving and finely balanced system, the colonisation of the Hawaiian Islands coupled with the existential threat posed by the climate crisis has put the ahupua'a severely at risk.

Poul Kjaerholm: Timeless Minimalism

Isbn 9784861529610
Publisher Seigensha
Idea code 24561
€ 27.75

Poul Kjærholm (1929–1980) is counted among the giants of modern Scandinavian furniture design. While mid-twentieth-century Scandinavian furniture is typically associated with the warmth of wood, Kjærholm’s designs were marked by highly disciplined forms shaped from hard stone and metal; his works harmonize well with Japanese architecture, which perhaps explains why he is so well embraced by connoisseurs in the country. This book presents the collection of one such enthousiast, Noritsugu Oda, who specializes in chairs. Some fifty masterpieces along with a wealth of valuable design drawings and archival photographs trace Kjærholm’s career from his beginnings under the noted furniture designer Hans J. Wegner to his death at the age of fifty-one.

Christopher Wilson - Richard Hollis designs for the Whitechapel – A graphic designer and an art gallery in twentieth-century London

Isbn 9780907259497
Publisher Hyphen Press
Idea code 24502
€ 21.50

Richard Hollis was the graphic designer for London's Whitechapel Art Gallery from 1969–73 and 1978–85. During his second tenure, under director Nicholas Serota, the gallery became prominent in the London art scene, featuring pioneering exhibitions by artists like Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, and Frida Kahlo. Hollis’s posters, catalogues, and leaflets captured the gallery's sense of discovery while exemplifying practical graphic design. Despite time and budget constraints, his work was urgent and impactful. Christopher Wilson’s monograph on Hollis’s work is a dynamic and insightful examination of this design era, reflecting the same passion and precision as Hollis’s designs. The book focuses on two main figures: Richard Hollis and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. It opens with chapters introducing each before detailing their collaboration. It includes reproductions and critical captions of Hollis's work for the gallery, covering key periods of his influence and the technical shifts in print production from hot-metal to desktop publishing.

Cheating time | Bruno Munari the archaeologist

Isbn 9788875701130
Publisher Corraini Edizioni
Idea code 24454
€ 22.75

In Cheating Time: Bruno Munari the Archaeologist, a book associated with the exhibition at the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna for the centenary of Bruno Munari's birth, readers will find 3rd millennium B.C. objects alongside Fossils of 2000, ancient inscriptions, and Illegible writings by unknown populations. The book includes quotations from Munari and archaeologist Vere Gordon Childe, stemming from both historical and imaginative research. Alberto Munari explains in an unpublished text that this project began with a visit to an archaeological site on Panarea Island (Sicily), where he and his father played with history using its own analytical tools. This experience inspired the Imaginary Museum of the Aeolian Islands, the Fossils of 2000, and theoretical reconstructions of imaginary objects, reflecting Munari’s works that see everyday objects as traces of an imaginative history rather than conventional History.

This is Me and Only Me

Isbn 9791254931035
Publisher Corraini Edizioni
Idea code 24532
€ 26.55

This is me, and only me. But what makes me...me? The world is full of numbers, details, and beautiful things to observe. But what do you take particular note of? What do you find the most interesting or worthy of being measured, documented, and drawn? What you choose to notice can teach you a lot about who you are and what you care about. And if you use symbols, colors and annotations to visualize and add context to your observations, you can make a beautiful portrait that tells the story of you! In "This is Me, and Only Me" Giorgia Lupi and Madeleine Garner show how everything we observe about the world around us can teach us something about who we are inside. Noticing what makes us happy, sad, or excited; seeing what makes us and our friends laugh; discovering that we all see the stars in the sky, but maybe we choose to remember them differently from a friend. All these details and many more can lead readers, young and adult alike, to take a closer look at what they notice about the world -- and therefore, themselves.
