The Images of Luis Barragán
Isbn 9789464460711 Publisher Roma Publications Idea code 24681 € 24.30
This book presents a selection of the images collected by Mexican architect Luis Barragán (1902–1988) as part of a reference archive that he displayed on a lectern in the living room of his home. In an ever-changing arrangement of pictures, Barragán’s thinking was made visual. Because it was a personal archive from which the architect simply added or removed images over time, the 170 currently registered pictures are all that can provide us today with a kaleidoscopic insight into Barragán’s mind, itself a myriad network of personal relationships, professional influences, and formal obsessions. The publication is the manifestation of a project by Roger Willems and Mark Manders.

Banjo – 31 Beach Looks
Isbn 9781922545367 Publisher Perimeter Editions Idea code 24680 € 40.70
The casual foundations of beach culture and beachwear are intrinsically recognisable to those who have spent any time near the Australian coast. Shot on location, ‘31 Beach Looks’ seems like an alternative manifesto for the beach experience. Key themes and details emerge amidst the tight framing and emphatic zooms in this photobook by Banjo McLachlan: faded tattoos, luxury accessories, perfectly lacquered nails, and idiosyncratic beach fashion. But perhaps the most resonant motif is that of the camera and the screen itself: in the majority of these pictures, we observe the subject experiencing the beach through the mediated space of their own smartphone screen.

Alain Rappaport - Paul
Isbn 9783907384114 Publisher Everyedition Idea code 24600 € 30.10
This book consists of a collection private photographs of missing pets. Embedded in search posters, printed on home printers, and partly protected by plastic covers, these announcements of lost cats, dogs, and birds have already been hanging in the public space for a certain period of time, exposed to sun, rain, and other adverse effects. The pictures also uncover partial insights into the world of the animals’ owners, most of whom have given their protégés a human name, such as Paul the cat. The collection of missing animals is complemented by a short story by Gerhard Meister.

Tian Doan Na Champassak - Parkett
Isbn 9782492175497 Publisher RVB Books Idea code 24675 € 30.10
Tiane Doan na Champassak works from his own collection of ‘Parkett’, a seminal art magazine issued between 1984 and 2017. His subtle approach consists of isolating numerous double-spreads of gallery advertisements, all from the magazine’s first five years. Coherent in style and form, these ads are artworks in their own right, reflecting the conceptual production of those years. Simple yet sophisticated, they trace an alternative history of postmodern and contemporary art, marking the recurrence of certain artists (Richard Prince, Marcel Broodthaers, Michael Heizer, Louise Bourgeois, Ed Ruscha, Anish Kapoor, Cindy Sherman, and others) in the art world landscape of the 1980s.

Film Undone. Elements of a Latent Cinema
Isbn 9783949973321 Publisher Archive Books Idea code 24654 € 25.55
'Film Undone' presents contributions introducing unmade and unfinished film projects, film ideas realised in non-filmic media, as well as films that remained unseen in their intended form and at their intended time. These tentative and careful probes dedicated to singular projects reflect the importance of primary materials before and beyond the film. Bringing them together as Elements of a Latent Cinema opens a space to consider cases from various political geographies and historical moments in relation. Latency prompts to think differently about what has remained invisible in cinema than under deficit-centred categories such as failure, loss, or incompletion. It marks a sustained potentiality for things to change their condition, to affect us and set us in motion.

Noor Abed – Stars at Midday –نجوم الضُهر
Isbn 9781919627731 Publisher Occasional Papers Idea code 24579 € 20.80
This book is a personal production diary in which artist and filmmaker Noor Abed compiles visual and poetic notes from the production phase of her film A Night We Held Between, filmed in Palestine in 2023 with family and friends. Like the film whose production it chronicles, 'Stars at Midday' interweaves narrative fragments, song and diaristic observations, creating a fusion of natural and composed sequences of movement, of documentary and fictional elements. Through a choreography of bodies, sites, stories, and temporalities, Abed’s work prompts contemplation on the manifestations of social action and resistance in everyday life.

Twana’s Box
Isbn 9783950506440 Publisher Fraglich Publishing Idea code 24418 € 50.65
'Twana’s Box' can be described in many ways: a journey through a photographer’s rare archive, documenting the Kurdistan region of Iraq from 1974–1992; a son’s quest to find his lost father, who was murdered by a military regime; a young man’s way to piece together the fragments of a scattered family in a scattered culture; the becoming of a photographer who, through the stories of others, starts to understand his own identity in times of war. 'Twana’s Box' is not only the photo book that holds a selection of Twana Abdullah’s archive; it is a unique insight into a time and place in a region that has since completely transformed. Rawsht has spent years piecing together his father’s negatives and stories. His archival work inspired him to become a photographer himself, working for Metrography – the first independent Iraqi photo agency – before immigrating to Europe.

Positioning Practices | Investigating the Italian Colonial Experience Between Memory and the Present
Isbn 9791254931226 Publisher Corraini Edizioni Idea code 24555 € 36.65
Two years ago, students in the two-year photography course at ISIA Urbino engaged in a series of activities—residences, courses, and workshops—focused on Italian colonialism. Their goal was to research and reflect on its historical narrative and contemporary impact. Aligned with the Institute's mission to blend teaching, cultural projects, and social engagement, the group embarked on a long-term project. Utilizing an array of sources such as archives (MUCIV, ICCD, Biblioteca Nazionale), monuments, and communities in Rome, they developed their work. After two years of continuous review and study, their projects were formalized into a book and an exhibition taking place on July 2024 at Villa Romana, Florence.

Shun Kataoka – Life Works
Isbn 9784865411843 Publisher Akaaka Idea code 24571 € 43.00
With inquisitive curiosity and documentarist passion, the photographic series presented in ‘Life Works’ explores the details and facets of a small garden. Purchased and makeshift planters nurture seeds, grass, and weeds that cover every inch of open soil, while old latticework and forgotten watering cans and other tools hint at the presence of a human gardener. This is the garden of Shun Kataoka’s late grandfather. Years after his death, the decades he spent gardening in this spot are still visible, but nature is slowly erasing his traces. Here two forces intersect: plants growing wild and his grandfather’s hands. The limited space embodies the unceasing intertwining of people and plants.

Shahriar Tavakoli – Bright Nights
Isbn 9786001524202 Publisher Nazar Publishing Idea code 24594 € 16.50
Active as a photographer since 1992, Shahriar Tavakoli is fascinated by light and darkness, and enchants us with both. Although mostly focused on nature and urban landscapes, several types or genres of photography intermingle in his images, including landscape, rough, family portraiture, and mise-en-scène. By blending their expressive features, he opens the linear horizon of the images, making them fluid and flowing. With light, he helps us discover the secrets of darkness, while in darkness, he reveals the secrets of light. ‘Bright Nights’ is a tribute to his unique vision and unbridled passion for the medium, where Tavakoli also adds personal commentary to many of his photographs.

Genda #4. The Violence of the State
Isbn 9791281232082 Publisher a+mbookstore Edizioni Idea code 24611 € 20.45
According to Michel Foucault, “The violence of the state is nothing other than the irruptive manifestation, in a way, of its own reason”. This edition looks at state violence through the lens of several photographers: Kurt Caviezel, Adam Harvey, Broomberg & Chanarin, Paolo Ciro, James Bridle, Clément Lambelet, and Jules Spinatsch. Images of crowds of protestors, militarised police ranks, clouds of tear gas, anonymising masks, umbrellas as shielding, street arrests, and violence in the urban setting fill the pages. Each issue of the magazine revolves around the intersection of two cultures: West and East. Two sets of editorial staff identify a common theme, which is then elaborated upon.

Harumichi Saito – Kando
Isbn 9784865411041 Publisher Akaaka Idea code 24136 € 35.95
Harumichi Saito, winner of the New Cosmos of Photography Award, is one of the most remarkable young photographers in Japan. Many of his portraits are of disabled people or minorities within Japanese society. His images are filled with light and clarity, through which he draws a dignity and radiance out of his subjects. In addition to people, he also turns to animals and landscapes for his subjects. Regardless, Saito’s distinguishing feature in his practice is the way he faces his subject directly, allowing the viewer to experience the pure beauty of his vision. The works express a living, breathing world beyond all classifications or boundaries.

Erwan Frotin – FLUX 1
Isbn 9782493467010 Publisher Note Note Éditions Idea code 24643 € 45.95
FLUX I is the first chapter in Erwan Frotin's series—a unique travel diary, a new kind of atlas. The archive of places, phenomena, and organisms he collected over ten years constitute a veritable and evolving encyclopaedia. These fragments of nature emphasize the forms of living beings as an ecosystem of signs, wonders, and questions all seemingly moved by the same breath. Shot in Hawaii, Costa Rica, and as far as the Philippines and Antarctica, Erwan's photographs activate the universal imagination. The Franco-Swiss photographer develops a sculptural approach to bodies in permanent metamorphosis, blurring the line between documentary and fiction.

Following titles like ‘Silver’ (2020) and ‘Palo’ (2021), ‘Look’ is the third artist’s book by Japanese photographer Hayahisa Tomiyasu, who studied in both Tokyo and Leipzig. All images were taken in London in 2023, documenting the street markings for pedestrians who are instructed to look left and right before crossing. The artist focused on the word “Look” and its impermanence and transformation due to local traffic norms and pedestrian expectations, particularly those who are visiting the city from elsewhere around the globe. The book’s distinctive layout further emphasises the downward gaze.

Mikiya Takimoto – Lumière
Isbn 9784861529672 Publisher Seigensha Idea code 24663 € 96.45
Active as a photographer since 1988, Mikiya Takimoto involves himself in a diverse range of activities, from shooting advertising photos to publishing his own art photography. He also has a remarkable way of catching light when he presses the shutter – light that has travelled huge distances across an infinite vacuum, and that no one has ever seen before. With this in mind, ‘Lumière’ is a gorgeous ode to the blooming flowers and budding trees on this planet. As Masao Morita writes, “Takimoto’s photographs teach us that a flower is a vast landform. No matter what kind of computer you use, you cannot predict the changes in the flowing drops of liquid or the shadows of the delicate light.”

Mikiya Takimoto – Prière
Isbn 9784861529689 Publisher Seigensha Idea code 24664 € 96.45
‘Prière’ consists of a series of photographs of space alternating with earthly images. What is different about these experiments, which photographer Mikiya Takimoto began to undertake due to the global pandemic, is his re-examination of familiar landscapes as “intimate” environments that he himself also inhabits. During the pandemic, he had no choice but to make use of the equipment he already had within his limited sphere of activity, capturing these everyday scenes with a small camera. This adaptation has also produced a lasting change in Takimoto’s work. This book is therefore a collection of works that documents this process of profound transformation as a photographer.
